Dr. Seuss Inspiration for Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere

Dr. Seuss BooksMarch is a great time for inspiration by Dr. Seuss! Dr. Seuss’s birthday is March 2. I’ve been having lots of Dr. Seuss fun, researching Dr. Seuss resources for my blog at Living Montessori Now.

That’s when I noticed how many of the posts weren’t written for parents or teachers of kids but for adults with or without kids. Yes, I’ve always loved Dr. Seuss books – but I always worked with kids or had kids at home before. The Dr. Seuss quote glared in my face:

“You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.” (I Can Read with My Eyes Shut)

If we open our eyes, many things Dr. Seuss said work for people of all ages, things like:

Take care of our planet and make a difference:

“UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” (The Lorax)

Respect everyone … and don’t forget those who need help:

“I know up on the top you are seeing great sights, but down at the bottom we, too, should have rights. (Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories)

Be loyal to your friends, and be a person of integrity:

“I meant what I said, and I said what I meant… An elephant’s faithful one hundred percent!” (Horton Hatches the Egg)

Express gratitude:     

“Just tell yourself, Duckie, you’re really quite lucky!” (Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?)

See the humor in life:

“From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere.” (One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish)

Try new things … and have fun!

“If you never did you should. These things are fun, and fun is good.” (One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish)

Embrace life … take the first step!

“You’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So… get on your way!” (Oh, the Places You’ll Go!)

    Thank you for stopping by my blog. I was raising a figure skater at one point! My oldest daughter skated for three years and we commuted 90 minutes one way to the Int. Skate Center in Simsbury for her lessons. Ultimately she gave up her training to have more time with family but she still loves to skate every week with her friends.

    I love how you put together all these Dr. Seuss quotes, I would have never thought of that! But it makes sense as to why adults love his books, too! (My son w/DS never got into Dr. Seuss, sadly, but you’ve brought him back–to me any way!) Ice skating was my all-time favorite activity when I was growing up in San Francisco, sadly the rink got torn down. It was my dream to be a professional ice skater. But I became a Montessori teacher and mom, instead, LOL!

      Thanks so much, Lisa! It is wonderful that we can still appreciate Dr. Seuss as adults. It’s really interesting about your background in ice skating. But I believe that everything happens for a reason. You’re an awesome Montessori teacher, blogger, and mom … so I’m glad your life led in that direction! :)
